What is Botox?

Botox® is an FDA-approved procedure used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, and other signs of aging. 

Botox injections come from a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria that causes botulism. When this toxin is injected in small, diluted doses, it blocks the nerve signals that cause your muscles to contract. When your muscles can’t contract, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles. 

How long do the effects of Botox last?

The effects of these injections last from 4-6 months, after which your muscles start to regain movement, and the wrinkles reappear. Getting repeated treatments over time shrinks the targeted muscle and reduces your wrinkles. 

What are the side effects of Botox?

The most common side effects are bruising or swelling at the site of the injection, but these should subside in 24-48 hours. If you experience drooping, don’t worry. This should go away in 12 hours. If it persists, call the office so your provider can prescribe eye drops or suggest another remedy. 

Is there any downtime after getting an injectable treatment?

No, there is no downtime. After getting an injection, you can return to regular activities immediately. The team does recommend that you not lie down for 3-4 hours after the procedure.
